Capitola is a small town with a big idea. They are putting up a 17-foot bronze statue honoring women surfers, only the third of its kind anywhere in the world. Picture that for a second. A little beach town deciding, in bronze, who belongs in the water.

If you have spent any real time in a lineup, you already know the women out there are not asking for permission. They are charging, they are styling, and they have been doing it for a long time. Capitola just said that out loud in a way you cannot miss from the road.

Next time someone acts like the ocean has a gender, there is now a 17-foot answer standing on the California coast.
